An Introduction to Thermal Imaging
Thermography or infrared thermal imaging is a cost-effective method of determining faults in all electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment for industrial, commercial and domestic businesses.
Furthermore, it has an increasing application for domestic properties and can quickly and accurately identify structural issues and problems with buildings and can identify faults with heating, lighting and electrical systems and appliances, which are not visible to the naked eye.
The imaging is carried out using specialist equipment to identify differences in the 'thermal' or heat/infrared energy within a property and what these might indicate. For example unusually low temperatures may indicate a moisture problem, conversely an area showing unusual heat may indicate an electrical fault. It is fast, accurate and non-invasive to a property with many potential safety and money saving benefits
What are the potential benefits?
Thermal Imaging technology has also revolutionised the approach to predictive maintenance. By pro-active early identification of potentially serious faults before they have a chance to fail, infrared thermography prevents sudden and costly disruption to critical operational and production systems by allowing repairs to be scheduled at a time which is convenient to everyone.
A thermographic survey of an electrical switchboard for example will reveal in seconds the location of any component with abnormal temperatures which may result in a fire, equipment failure or compromise staff health and safety.
Thermal imaging is not just useful from a safety aspect, but can also be useful in identifying economical and ecological faults with a property.
Older properties were often built without insulation in mind, resulting in costly energy bills as well as an ecologically unfriendly premises. Thermal imaging can identify specific areas where properties are badly insulated, which again can result in preventative cost saving measures.
What do I get?
We can carry out thermal imaging on your property and offer a detailed report of the results including highlighting areas of concern and suggestions of remedial works for faults found.
